'One Day'

Having just finished this fabulous book by David Nicholls, I can say that I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a love story that isn't all soppy, but down to earth and attends to a lot of issues that are true to life, rather than just being a bit like a cinderella story. Beg, borrow or steal...this book must be read!

...the wonders of online shopping!

I don't know about anyone else, but I have recently been really drawn to looking online for clothes. What with all the adverts about 'next day delivery if you order before 9pm (thank you 'Next'), and 'asos' now sending out magazine's to entice us, it's all a bit, in your face. I'm not saying that I'm complaining, because of course, it really is very uselful, but is it not now taking away another reason to go out? Nobody wants to go out anymore; you can shop from the comfort of your own home, order food straight to your door, even your weekly shop, and for some people, this just seems routine. Not only this, but it's how easy it is to buy something. You just type in some numbers, click 'agree' and it's yours...no having to route through your wallet to find the change! I find it so easy to do that, forgetting that I'm still spending money, and it's then that the parcels seem to come more readily! I know that it can be a life saver, but to me, going into the shops and trying everything on, seeing how absolutely hideous it looks, having a laugh, or being laughed at by the people who have decided to drag themseleves from the sofa with you, is what it's all about! Besides, it really is quite sad when you've got all excited, because you know that when you get home there's going to be a parcel waiting for you, and you try it on and it looks like a tent!

GCSE textiles final product. Made from muslin and newspaper, due to the fact that it had to be created out of recycled materials. Now I just have to await the result...

Urban Life

So this is the criteria that we're given, and I'm thinking, urban life? Graffiti? Skyscrapers? The City? New York? Banksy? ...all of this. How hard was it going to be? Turns out very. Having to look at artists and do study's and then having to base a final piece around an artist. That's not original at all! So by 'urban life', I chose fashion and bridges. A strange combination but it worked pretty well. I'll post the final one up sometime soon.

It's been a while

My Art Exam has taken over a bit recently, and while researching 'Urban Life' I found this picture and I love it. No time to say anything else! I just love how you can get so much depth in simply black and white.

Andrew Miksys

I recently discovered photographer Andrew Miksys, and I love his collection of photos 'BUSES'. He's also done three more collections: 'Baxt', 'Bingo' and 'Disco'. I would really suggest taking a look. He's a photographer that has a different view on life, and the pictures are from a really new angle - love them.

The Row

When browsing through net-a-porter, I discovered a collection called 'The Row'. It features mainly one coloured, simplistic pieces; items to be worn again and again.
"Launched in 2007, this hip ready-to-wear and accessories brand is the brainchild of A-list style icons Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen. Named after London's historic Savile Row, the label delivers a directional take on traditional tailoring with a focus on clean lines and refined cuts. Expect a downtown-cool mix of leather micro minis, fluid ankle-skimming pants and maxi shirt dresses."

Two new Topshop beauties! Mesh Applique Shift Dress in Olive Green and Off White, both at £75. I really like how the lining only covers the main body, so that the arms are left revealed underneath. I personally prefer the Olive, but the print on both is really elegant and I'm certain, quite flattering.

Florence

...talking of 'Florence + The Machine', I absolutely love what this woman wears. She can pull off so many different styles; loose, off-white shirts and lacy shorts; dark, midnight blue maxi-dresses, and towering heels; and all with that shocking red hair! And she can sing...some people just have it all
A birdcage filled with fairy lights is a great way to cast a dim light over any room, without the harsh brightness of a lamp. I got the idea from the set of a 'Florence + The Machine' gig, where she used a single bulb inside, but adapted, and now this is in my room.

WOB WOB!

I love simply wandering around London and seeing things that make you smile; even if it is something as childish as a sticker that says 'wob wob!'...

urbanears

Great love for my 'urban ears' headphones! Come in a variety of different colours to suit every style, and the design is really simple (not like any of that scullcandy rubbish). I have the pink ones, and they're comfortable to wear, and produce a great sound...

Emmeline

I am actually in love with this wedding dress! It is truly beautiful, and I hope that maybe, one day, I'll have the chance to wear it. It'll cost me though, as it's by top designer Vera Wang. Thank you Vera, thank you!

Show Me You Love Me... #2

These Charlotte Olympia heels are a great twist on the classic black stiletto. The 'Dolly suede platform pumps' have a heel of 6 inches with a 1.5 inch platform! Perfect for shorter girls, with the eye-catching gold leather platform to add some flare on a classic trend. An investment if ever I saw one, they're available to buy on net-a-porter, and coming soon, her own website:

Show Me You Love Me...

...and buy me one of these this Valentines! I absolutely love Hermes bags, simply because of how timeless and classic they are. With their bold structure created out of soft leather, they're a perfect balance, creating something truly gorgeous!
"When tools meet inspiration" is the motto that they go by, and it represents them perfectly, because they do show great craftmanship, in a way that is so versatile now in the fashion world. In a variety of every colour going, you could have one for every occasion - I sure would if I could.

One for One

Shoe company TOMS have recently launched a promise, that with every pair you purchase they will donate a brand new pair to a child in need. These linen espradrille style shoes are so individual, and with so many designs and colour variations. Starting with prices of £33 they're quite pricey, but definately worth the money as they are so versatile for the summer, and it's going towards an excellent cause. Below are some links to the site to purchase, and also, for their 'One Day Without Shoes' campaign - take a look:
